T'was a cool July

July 2014 in the Greater Akron area was cooler than normal. The temperature rarely got above 85 degrees and when it did it was for no more than two consecutive days. In contrast, July 2013 was above normal with a string of 90+ degree days.

Here's the bullet points for this year and last:

July 2014
  • only on 6 days was the temperature warmer than 85 degrees
  • none of the 85+ periods lasted longer than two consecutive days
  • the temperature hit 90 degrees only one time and that was on July 1st
  • the temperature averaged 1.7 degrees BELOW normal for the month
July 2013
  • we had five days when the mercury topped 90 degrees
  • these five 90+ days were mid-month and were consecutive
  • the highest temperature of the month was 93 degrees
  • the temperature averaged 1.4 degrees ABOVE normal for the month
